Overview

High School History Teacher: American Heritage School in American Fork, Utah, is seeking a qualified and dedicated High School History Teacher for the 2026–27 school year. This position provides the opportunity to engage students in the study of history while helping them develop critical thinking skills, an understanding of historical context, and the ability to connect past events with the world around them within a rigorous, faith-based academic environment.

Teachers would teach history courses in the college model on a semester time period. The teacher will propose various history courses that will be determined by the Curriculum Committee. Possible history courses include, but are not limited to, American History, History of England, History of Influential Women, History of Fashion, etc.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a minimum of two-years  experience, preferably in a formal high school setting. Bachelor s degree or equivalent is required. Candidates must demonstrate an enduring love of youth, a love of teaching and learning, and a desire to work in a faith-based atmosphere aligned with values taught by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Successful candidates will also demonstrate strong communication and classroom management skills, high energy, experience in preparing and delivering daily lesson plans, experience establishing and communicating clear learning objectives, ability to use a variety of pedagogical methods, and willingness to learn.

Candidates should be professional in appearance and demeanor and be willing and able to uphold and serve as ambassadors for the AHS Mission, Honor Code, and Diversity Statement, on and off campus.

Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be expected to foster a classroom environment that is respectful, well-managed, and academically engaging. Responsibilities include assessing and monitoring student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback, maintaining accurate academic records, and communicating effectively with parents, colleagues, and administration. Faculty members are expected to participate in department meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events in support of the school s mission.

Extracurriculars

In addition to the job requirements listed above, please include in your application any interest you have in helping with our AHS extracurricular athletics programs. Please let us know if you have experience as a player or a coach in specific sports. AHS prefers to fill its extracurricular athletics coaching openings with employees (teachers, aides, etc.) who also have skills and interest in coaching athletics.
