Under the general supervision of the school principal, the Elementary Classroom Teacher facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress, activities and outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals.
EssentialFunctions
- Develops and administers elementary curriculum consistent with district goals.
- Promotes a safe classroom environment that supports individualized and small‑group instruction.
- Creates lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into effective learning experiences.
- Conducts ongoing assessments and modifies instruction to meet student needs, including students with special educational needs.
- Instructs students in citizenship principles and other subject matters as required by law, and in administrative regulations and procedures.
- Continues professional development through seminars, workshops, meetings and research.
- Maintains accurate records, grading and reporting of student achievements and attendance.
- Encourages parental involvement and maintains effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures student conduct complies with school and district policies and establishes a functional learning atmosphere.
- Coordinates with elementary staff to evaluate curriculum and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions instructional supplies; maintains inventory records.
- Supervises students during off‑classroom activities, including transportation.
- Administers standardized tests according to district testing programs.
Skills and Abilities
- Current teaching methods and educational pedagogy and ability to differentiate instruction based on learning styles.
- In-depth knowledge of elementary curriculum and concepts.
- Proficiency with data systems, data analysis and action plan formulation.
- Knowledge of federal and state educational laws.
- Computer literacy and use of network systems and software applications.
- Organizational and coordination skills.
- Effective communication with students and parents.
- Self‑evaluation for professional growth.
- Ability to establish collaborative working relationships with colleagues.
