ATEC West is a transition program for young adults (ages 18‑22). The program’s main focus is learning life skills and job skills that help our students gain maximum independence.

The job of SPED Para III – Job Coach is to provide support to the instructional program under the direction of an assigned classroom teacher. Responsibilities include assisting in supervising, caring for, and instructing special needs students at ATEC West; implementing instructional plans; monitoring behavior during instructional and non‑instructional time; and providing information to appropriate school personnel.

Essential Functions
  • Provides instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g., social skills, daily living skills, hygiene, cleaning tasks, job skills) to reinforce instructional objectives and support IEP plans.
  • Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the supervising teacher’s direction to support and reinforce classroom objectives and IEP goals.
  • Collects data to support teachers and prepares reports or processing forms.
  • Communicates with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
  • Implements behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions to support learning and social skills.
  • Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g., medication, feeding tubes).
  • Assists students with self‑care activities (e.g., lifting, toileting, washing, changing diapers, eating, dressing, grooming) to maintain personal hygiene.
  • Monitors students during assigned periods across various school environments (e.g., rest rooms, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Provides supervision and support at off‑campus job sites, including while traveling to and from job sites. Staff may be asked to drive students to off‑campus job sites, requiring a district online training certificate.
  • Attends job‑specific trainings (e.g., first aid, behavior management) to acquire and convey information related to job functions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
  • Age 16 or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Job‑related experience desired.
  • Specific training may be required.
