Under the general supervision of the School Principal, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing specialized instruction using research‑based interventions and district curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress; addressing specific educational needs; and creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment. Provide feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding progress, expectations, goals, etc. Write and implement IEP goals and behavior intervention plans to ensure adequate progress of students with mild to moderate disabilities.
Ensure timelines are followed and meetings are established and held in a timely and compliant manner. Work closely with general education classroom teachers and related service providers to ensure adequate progress on IEP goals.
- Organize and facilitate developmentally appropriate learning opportunities to ensure student participation and improve academic success, fostering smooth transition to elementary school.
- Adapt classroom work to provide students with instructional materials addressing individualized learning within established curriculum guidelines.
- Assess student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals; provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Advise parents/legal guardians of student progress; communicate expectations, achievements, and methods of improvement.
- Direct assistant teacher, special education para educator, volunteers, and/or student workers to provide an effective classroom program and address individual student needs.
- Collaborate effectively with special education teacher, related services, instructional coach, and other colleagues to provide appropriate services to all students as outlined in IEP.
- Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Monitor preschool students in various educational environments to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Model conversation, manners, clean‑up activities, listening skills, etc., demonstrating appropriate social and interpersonal behavior.
- Prepare written materials (weekly newsletters, assessment reports, lesson plans, etc.) to communicate with parents, document progress, and meet mandated requirements.
- Attend IEP meetings for students as needed.
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel.
- Administer first aid and/or dispense medications to meet immediate health care needs.
- Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, etc., to resolve issues, provide information, and give direction.
- Participate in meetings to convey and gather information required to perform functions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
