POSITION SUMMARY

The Lion Energy Automation Team is seeking a full-time Automation Engineer to support the design, implementation, and optimization of automated systems within our production and testing processes. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for innovation, problem‑solving, and continuous improvement in testing and manufacturing of energy storage systems. This role requires a firm understanding of electrical fundamentals, ladder logic and PLC programming, and 3D design capabilities.

This position is critical to scaling Lion Energy's U.S.

-based manufacturing operations, improving production efficiency, reducing manual processes, and ensuring quality control across battery assembly, testing, and packaging lines.

Responsibilities/Duties Automation Design and Implementation
  • Design and implement automation solutions for interdepartmental use across production, testing, and quality control
  • Design automated machines and systems to support battery manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Develop electrical schematics for control systems, panels, and machine integration
  • Collaborate with engineering, embedded software, operations, and quality teams to develop automated processes to test Lion Energy products
  • Support the transition from prototype to production‑ready automated systems
PLC Programming and Control Systems
  • Develop, program, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, and other control systems (Allen-Bradley, Studio 5000 )
  • Write and optimize ladder logic for machine control, sensor integration, and data acquisition
  • Integrate industrial sensors, actuators, and control devices into automated workflows
  • Implement safety interlocks and emergency stop protocols in compliance with manufacturing standards
Testing and Process Optimization
  • Support troubleshooting and process improvements across production and testing facilities
  • Develop and validate automated test sequences for lithium battery products
  • Document, test, create standard operating procedures (SOPs), and validate automated systems
  • Monitor system performance and recommend improvements to increase throughput, reduce cycle time, and improve quality
Hands‑On System Build and Support
  • Use hand and power tools to build, wire, and install automated machines and control panels
  • Provide technical support for equipment downtime, troubleshooting, and rapid resolution
  • Train production and warehouse teams on automated equipment operation and basic troubleshooting
  • Maintain and update documentation for all automation systems including electrical diagrams, BOMs, and configuration files
Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent hands‑on experience)
  • Experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Studio 5000 ) and industrial control systems
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design (Solid Works ; Solid Works Electrical a plus)
  • Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals, schematics, and wiring standards
  • Ability and willingness to learn how automated equipment works and how to fix and improve it
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative, cross‑functional environment
  • Hands‑on experience using hand and power tools to build and wire machines
  • Basic Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with robotics, data acquisition systems, or energy storage systems ()
  • Python coding, Linux systems, or other programming and computer‑based knowledge ()
  • Experience in battery manufacturing, electronics assembly, or regulated production environments ()
