Your day-to-day as a Public Works Technician I (Water)

As a Full-Time Public Works Technician I (Water) with American Fork City, you will play a vital role in maintaining and optimizing water system flows and controls. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the maintenance of our essential water systems, and ensuring the reliability of the community's water supply. You will actively maintain and restore wells, booster stations, and re-circulators, contributing to the efficiency and functionality of our infrastructure.

Additionally, you will oversee the installation of new or repaired water lines, ensuring that all work meets safety and quality standards. This position offers a unique opportunity to be hands-on in safeguarding the water services that our residents depend on, exemplifying our commitment to a sustainable future.

Compensation and benefits

Pay range: $21.44 - $32.16 per hour. Benefits include Medical (a $0-dollar plan with a generous monthly HSA contribution by the city), Dental, Vision, 401(k), Life Insurance (policies for you and your family paid for by the city), Flexible Spending Account, paid time off, equipment stipend, American Fork Fitness Center pass, and short and long-term disability.

Are you the Public Works Technician I (Water) we’re looking for?

To excel in this role, candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, and at least three years of experience in the maintenance of water system flows and controls, as well as troubleshooting various water leak issues. Physical stamina is required, including the ability to lift up to 75 lbs. Proficiency in operating heavy mechanized equipment, including dump trucks, pumps, chain saws, and torches, is important.

Strong problem-solving abilities and effective communication skills to work with team members are essential.

Knowledge and skills required for the position include:

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in the maintenance of water system flows and controls or general construction.
  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs
  • Skill in operating heavy mechanized equipment (e.g., dump truck, backhoe, trencher, pumps, chainsaw, torches)
