Job Summary

The Graduate Assistant (GA) for Housing and Residence Life plays a vital role in fostering a safe, welcoming, and efficient residential environment. This position encompasses crisis response, supervision of desk assistants, and support for major departmental initiatives.

Responsibilities Desk Duties & Customer Service
  • Supervise desk assistants to ensure consistent and high‑quality service.
  • Keep desk supplies stocked.
  • Review visitor logs and ensure accurate information is reported and logged.
  • Address resident inquiries and concerns with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Ensure desk operations adhere to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to creating a welcoming community.
Administration
  • Manage key audits and inventory.
  • Assist with the coordination of room assignments, check‑ins/outs, and room changes.
  • Maintain accurate records for desk operations and housing logistics.
  • Attend weekly meetings with supervisors, weekly staff meetings, and monthly divisional meetings.
Communication
  • Act as a liaison between residents, desk assistants, and professional staff.
  • Provide timely updates on policy changes, procedures, and events.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with desk assistants to ensure alignment and address concerns.
Departmental Initiatives
  • Support large‑scale events such as Move‑In, Homecoming, and other campus traditions.
  • Collaborate on the planning and execution of departmental programs and initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of training sessions for student staff.
Supervision
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate desk assistants across multiple residence halls.
  • Review and approve Desk Assistant timesheets.
  • Conduct regular one‑on‑one meetings, team meetings, and performance reviews.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
Professional Development Opportunities
  • Attend departmental and divisional training sessions.
  • Engage in workshops and conferences related to student affairs.
  • Participate in committees and special projects to enhance departmental operations.
Required Qualifications
  • Enrollment in a graduate program at the institution.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and participate in an on‑call rotation.
Other Information

Reports to:

Assistant Director of Residence Life or designee.

Work Schedule:

20 hours per week, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Compensation:
Tuition remission + Stipend + Housing and Meal Plan.
