Job SummaryThe Campus Postal Clerk performs a variety of clerical, customer service, and mail-processing duties within the campus post office. The position is responsible for providing accurate and courteous service to students, faculty, staff, and other customers; processing incoming and outgoing mail; maintaining student mailbox records; operating postal equipment; and completing daily postal and financial reports.
The employee works independently on routine assignments while following established postal procedures and regulations. Guidance and assistance are available from the Postal Supervisor, and work is reviewed through observation, accuracy, customer service, and completion of assigned responsibilities.
Responsibilities- Provides professional and courteous service at the post office window, including:
- Selling postage stamps and money orders.
- Weighing mail and calculating postage.
- Processing certified, registered, insured, COD, delivery confirmation, signature confirmation, customs, express, and international mail.
- Answering customer questions regarding postal services, procedures, and regulations.
- Addressing customer concerns and referring complaints to the appropriate personnel when necessary.
- Processes incoming, outgoing, and campus mail by:
- Sorting and bundling mail by department.
- Sorting and distributing student mail.
- Preparing package notices and other required documentation.
- Calculating and applying appropriate postage.
- Preparing special-service and international mail forms.
- Operates postage meters, scales, package tracking systems, and other standard postal equipment.
- Maintains accurate package and mail records and monitors package tracking information.
- Processes mail forwarding and readdressing requests and maintains the campus forwarding system.
- Maintains student mailbox assignments and records, including:
- Assigning postal boxes from the established box list.
- Providing students with box lock combinations.
- Investigating mailbox problems and resolving routine issues.
- Labeling student mailboxes with current student information.
- Receives, verifies, records, and returns postal stock as required.
- Provides holiday mail services and supports increased mail and package volume during peak periods.
- Identifies and reports known customer and target mail information to the Americus USPS as required.
- Prepares accurate daily reports, including:
- Postage and postal services sold.
- Money orders sold.
- Fees collected, including COD fees.
- Postal stock received and returned.
- Bank deposits and related financial activity.
- Maintains confidentiality and security of customer, student, financial, and postal information.
- Ensures mail and postal transactions are handled accurately and in accordance with applicable postal regulations and campus procedures.
