Department Information
Georgia Southwestern State University's Department of Chemistry, Geology and Physics is committed to fostering a dynamic and engaging learning environment for all students. In addition to providing a comprehensive academic curriculum, the department actively cultivates a culture of inquiry, critical thinking, and scholarly exploration that equips graduates with career-ready skills for the constantly changing needs of the workforce.
Responsibilities
* The position is a 10-month contract (Lecturer or Assistant Professor).
* Assistant Professor: A typical teaching load is 4/4 or 12 contact hours per semester (fall and spring).
* Lecturer: A typical teaching load is 5/5 or 15 contact hours per semester (fall and spring).
* Additional teaching in the summer may be available.

Responsibilities
* Deliver introductory courses and labs in Physical and Historical Geology for the Department of Chemistry, Geology and Physics and additional courses as assigned.
* Develop new courses in the geosciences for the Core Curriculum.
* Actively engage in research and scholarly activities to contribute to the academic excellence of the department, college, and institution.
* Provide dedicated advising and mentorship to students as assigned, fostering their academic and professional growth.
* Demonstrate a strong commitment to service through active participation in departmental, institutional, and professional activities.
* Actively engage in student success initiatives and professional development.
* Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair, Dean, and Administration
Required Qualifications
Assistant Professor:
Doctorate is required in Geology or related field by the time of appointment. ABD considered.
Lecturer:
Master's degree is required with 18 hours in related field.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience teaching college-level courses in Geology and STEM.
* Experience teaching First-Generation students.
* Experience collaborating across disciplines.
* Experience coordinating students in experiential learning opportunities, internships, and High Impact Practices (HIPs).
Proposed Salary
Assistant Professor: $60,000 - $65,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Lecturer: $50,000 - $55,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
