The City of Americus seeks qualified P.O.S.T. Certified AND Non-Certified candidates for the position of Police Officer. The salary for this position is $34,308.00 annually ($16.49/hourly).

Current P.O.S.T Certified Officers: P.O.S.T. certified candidates with 3+ years of experience as a Police Officer in a city of similar size can earn an additional 3% in pay.

Non-Certified Applicants: We will sponsor you and provide In-Service Training! This position is open to non-P.O.S.T. certified candidates. We will sponsor your attendance at the Academy, pending successful background screenings.

Responsibilities include providing protection of life and property, enforcing federal, state, and local laws, responding to emergencies, investigating crimes, and performing specialized duties within an assigned division/unit.

• Must pass and maintain Georgia Peace Officer certification (current valid certification is a plus).
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must be 21 years of age (birth certificate required).
• Must possess a high school diploma or GED, with 5 months of law enforcement or security experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Must possess Compass Test Scores.
• Must pass a comprehensive background check and pre-employment drug screen; prior drug use may disqualify.
• Must be able to work 12-hour shifts, including on-call, nights, weekends, holidays, court dates, and overtime.
• Georgia Police Work Keys Certificate scoring 3 or above is a plus. The test is administered at South Georgia Technical College in Americus, GA. For more info, visit .
