Job Summary
The Administrative House Manager acts as a hospital administrator in their absence. The manager communicates with Nurse Managers, Directors, and Administrators regarding problems, interventions, and decisions made by Supervisor. They provide written documentation regarding problems, actions taken, and results. They investigate incidents, discuss with staff as appropriate, and report all information to leadership. The manager assesses emergency situations and responds promptly and effectively, notifying the appropriate authorities and Administration as needed, and implements the disaster plan as required.
The individual serves as a resource regarding legal aspects of policies, procedures, and regulations governing the hospital. They maintain current knowledge of hospital policies and procedures, situations that may affect overall functioning, and act as a patient advocate. The manager responds to patient, family, and physician concerns, assists nursing staff to intervene on the patient’s behalf, and uses the chain of command to provide quality patient care.
They maintain a safe patient environment by reporting safety concerns, support a shared governance style of leadership, assist nursing units in independently seeking solutions, and promote harmony and teamwork by assisting with conflict resolution. The manager confers with the Central Staffing Office and Command Center to facilitate movement of patients and staff throughout the hospital, maintains knowledge of bed availability, assumes responsibility for diverting patients, resolves staffing issues by conferring with charge nurses, makes rounds on patients, and actively participates in Quality Assurance/Improvement Programs.
They conduct restraint audits, respond to all codes, post unscheduled/emergent/urgent surgical cases, provide access to supplies and equipment, follow procedure for inter‑facility equipment acquisition/borrowing and lending, consider budget in all decisions, and seek methods for decreasing costs. The manager maintains a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament, uses tact, sensitivity, and sound judgment when relating to patients, families, and coworkers, displays a professional attitude, includes professional appearance, demonstrates strong problem‑solving ability, understands the ramifications of decisions, and ensures consistency, dependability and accuracy when carrying out responsibilities, and performs other related duties as assigned.
- 2 year / Associate Degree in Nursing (Required)
- 4 year / Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Preferred)
2 or more years Nursing Leadership Experience (Required)
Licenses and Certifications- Registered Nurse (RN) with current Georgia license,
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Preferred Certifications/Licensures:
Nursing Leadership Certification
CLINICAL STAFF SUPERVISION
- Provides direct supervision to staff in providing patient care.
- Assigns, directs and delegates clinical staff to meet patients’ needs based on competency of personnel, adjusting staffing patterns based on patient care needs.
- Ensures staff provides ongoing assessment of patients including review of lab results and reports abnormal findings to physician.
- Monitors procedures performed by ancillary departments.
- Receives patient traffic and coordinates bed control/throughput for all patients.
- Identifies patients meeting criteria for use of the Trauma Team and coordinates the patient flow through the unit when the team is in progress.
- Recognizes the need for, and ensures the notification of, law enforcement personnel, Coroner and Rape Crisis as appropriate.
- Ensures appropriate contact is made with discharged patients for returned abnormal laboratory and/or radiology results.
- Provides coordination & management of non-clinical departmental activities.
- Assists with communication of information to staff.
