Emergency Room Registered Nurse

Description:

Unit has EFAST track clinic rooms with a total of 12 beds, including 2 trauma bays. There is 1 seclusion room for psychiatric patients. The unit treats approximately 70 patients per day. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 to 4. Nurses are required to have BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications. There is a charge nurse who does not take patients. One paramedic is available per shift, typically operating the clinic and responding to traumas or codes.

The unit employs emergency room technicians, with at least 1 per shift, with an aim of having
2. Nurse externs may also be present, typically nursing students. Security and patient sitters are available for psychiatric holds with 1-on-1 observation as needed. Every other weekend is required for this position, and holidays will rotate with permanent staff. Scrub attire consists of hunter green pants, white tops, and white jackets. Nurses can perform their own lab draws, although a lab team is available.

An IV team is available for midline and difficult sticks during business hours. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Pharmacy support is available 24/7, with an in-house presence during the day. Shifts typically begin at 6:45 AM and 6:45 PM, with additional mid-day shifts. Floating is not required for this position, and there is a floor-specific orientation. Common diagnoses include patients ranging from neonates to geriatrics, with cases varying from minor to severe trauma.

Trauma cases will be stabilized and transferred out as needed. The work environment is acute care. Candidates must meet required certifications and have relevant experience in emergency care.
