The City of Americus is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Correctional Officer. The beginning salary for this position is $35,095.76 annually ($16.87/hour).
ResponsibilitiesSupervise, direct and guard inmates on assigned work details; monitor activities and behavior of inmates on a continual basis; drive van with trailer to transport inmates to/from work sites or correctional facility; evaluate safety and security of work area; maintain inmate discipline; enforce established correctional institution rules and regulations; assist in restraining violent or unruly inmates; conduct regular headcounts of inmates;
search inmates, vehicles and grounds as needed to locate or remove contraband or weapons; ensure separation of inmates from the public; prevent escape of inmates while on work detail; operate a variety of equipment and tools associated with work details; and receive or prepare various forms, reports, work orders or correspondence in communication with supervisors, employees, other departments, law enforcement personnel, correctional institute, and/or the public.
High School Diploma or GED; completion of basic correctional officer training program; five (5) months previous experience and/or training involving corrections, law enforcement, or security work. Required qualifications may be any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain valid Georgia Peace Officer’s Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) Correctional Officer certification.
Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Proof of requirements must be provided at the time of applying.
