General Labor, Maintenance Worker
The purpose of the Equipment Operator classification within the W&S Maintenance department is to operate various types of motor equipment and perform labor-related duties throughout the city.
* The functions listed below are those that represent most of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Drives and operates a variety of trucks and equipment for the purpose of maintaining and repairing city streets, sidewalks, curbs, sewer services and mains, water services and mains, lift stations, and ROW's.
- Cleans catch basins, drainage ditches, and ROW debris; breaks up pavement, patches potholes, repairs curbs, replaces pavers, cuts grass as needed.
- Assists with the removal and clean-up of large trees in city owned ROW's.
- Performs preventive maintenance and minor repair on tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- Installs and repairs water mains and services, sewer mains and services. repair and replace manhole ring and lids, pulls repairs and replaces lift station pumps, routinely washes and services lift stations.
- Transports materials, equipment, and supplies to and from work sites. conducts both pre-trip and post trip inspections of trucks and equipment to ensure proper use as well as upkeep, loads and secures trucks, fuels trucks and equipment as needed.
- Operates various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies to complete assigned functions.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
ExperienceRequires six months of experience in manual labor and in the use and operation of vehicles and equipment; or an equal combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Certifications and LicensesRequired Certifications and Licenses Valid in the State of Georgia.

* Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Medium Work – Involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
* Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
- Involves routine and frequent exposurefumes and/or noxious odors; traffic; moving machinery
