JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for directing and coaching the university’s men’s soccer program.
MAJOR DUTIES- Manages men’s soccer program budgets. (10%)
- Manages scholarship, travel, operating, and equipment budgets.
- Coordinates fundraising events and programs.
- Plans and manages practices and game day activities. (30%)
- Instructs, coaches, and motivates players.
- Coordinates the work of other coaches.
- Recruits student athletes. (10%)
- Attends prospective student-athlete games.
- Evaluates players.
- Communicates with coaches and players.
- Advises and monitors the academic progress of student athletes. (10%)
- Ensures player eligibility.
- Provides advice and support to struggling students.
- Monitors student athletes’ community service.
- Ensures compliance with eligibility requirements.
- Maintains field, equipment and supplies. (10%)
- Purchases program equipment.
- Submits requisitions for equipment purchases.
- Performs field and equipment maintenance.
- Coordinates team travel. (5%)
- Reserves transportation for away games.
- Prepares expense reports and travel authorizations.
- Coordinates meals and hotels.
- Instructs courses in the College of Education. (15%)
- Performs a variety of related duties. (10%)
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing intercollegiate sports.
- Knowledge of college-level athletic program management principles.
- Knowledge of soccer rules and procedures.
- Knowledge of budget management principles.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in the coaching and training of student athletes.
- Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
The Athletic Director assigns work in terms of program goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews work through conferences, reports and observation of program activities.
GUIDELINESGuidelines include NCAA rules and regulations, Peach Belt Conference rules and regulations, Board of Regents policies and procedures, and university policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORKThe work consists of varied program management and coaching duties. The variety of tasks to be overseen contributes to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to direct and coach the university’s men’s soccer program. Success in this position results in the successful provision of programming to university students.
CONTACTS- Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, students, coaches from other institutions, student athletes, business professionals, professional scouts, and members of the general public.
- Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to motivate or influence persons.
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed in an office and in athletics facilities.
This position has direct supervision over assigned personnel.
- Baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field required.
- More than two years of related experience required.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
