Position OverviewThis temporary Data Entry Clerk position will assist City Assessor's office staff by entering building perimeter sketches and property data into a Microsoft-based valuation program. Expected to last from June/July 2026 to April 2027, the role requires 40 hours per week during City Hall hours (8 am‑5 pm, Monday‑Friday) and is not eligible for benefits or paid leave.
Key Responsibilities- Use the computer-based valuation program to enter building perimeter sketches and property data.
- Assist appraisal staff with data entry assistance.
- Complete a variety of office clerical tasks including typing and filing.
- Maintain effective office filing systems, both hard copy and electronic, per statutory laws and office procedures.
- Enter and update information into various computer programs (Outlook, Excel, Word and department‑specific programs).
- Interpret data and document types, scanning into electronic document systems under appropriate categories.
- Inform relevant parties regarding errors encountered.
- Prepare outgoing mail including addressing, folding, stuffing and sorting envelopes and packages for mass mailings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma, GED, or HiSet.
- At least six months of experience in data entry.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs or equivalent software.
- Skill in data entry, reading, analyzing, and interpreting general business periodicals or correspondence.
- Ability to complete office tasks with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
- Ability to work in coordination with team members and the public.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry.
Work is primarily sedentary, requiring sitting and/or use of computer equipment 80% of the time, and standing and/or walking 20% of the time. The role may involve lifting up to 10 pounds of force, with occasional lifting of 10–25 pounds.
Selection ProcessThe selection process includes evaluation of education and experience, interview, and completion of a criminal background check (including sex offender registry check). All candidates will be notified by email of their application status.
