The General Laborer - PCC is responsible for safely performing a variety of construction duties to assist the paving, utility, or grade crews at various locations. Primarily works on construction projects, usually working in utility capacity, by transferring from one task to another where demands require worker with varied experience and ability to work without close supervision by performing the following duties.

Many of these jobs are not full time. Project size and organization of work determine whether workers spend their time on one job or transfer from task to task as project progresses to completion. Work will be performed per the foreman’s instruction.

EXCELLENCE
  • Arrives at designated jobsite and receives assignment from the foreman.
  • Performs any combination of following tasks: digs, spreads, and levels dirt, gravel, earth, and other construction materials and combination of materials using hand tools.
  • Measures distances from grade stakes, drives stakes, and stretches tight line.
  • Bolts, nails, aligns, and blocks up under forms.
  • Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
  • Levels earth to fine grade specifications.
  • Smooths and finishes freshly poured cement or concrete.
  • Performs a variety of routine, non-machine tasks, such as removing forms for set concrete.
  • Performs manual labor such as handling steel, puddling concrete, operation of jackhammer, loading and unloading lumber, forms, etc.
  • Marks slab for saw crew.
  • Blows out sawed joints.
  • Positions, joins, aligns, and seals pipe sections.
  • Erects scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
  • Mops, brushes, or spreads paints or bituminous compounds over surfaces for protection.
  • Sprays materials such as water, sand, steam, vinyl, paint, or stucco through hose to clean, coat, or seal surfaces.
  • Applies caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal crevices.
  • Grinds, sands, or polishes surfaces.
  • Demolishes buildings, saws lumber, dismantles forms, removes projections from concrete, mounts pipe hangers, and cuts and attaches insulating material.
  • Reports unsafe conditions to foreman and reports all mishaps and injuries, no matter how slight.
  • Takes initiative when assigned work is complete to help out in other tasks or jobs.
  • Performs assigned work following safety procedures.
  • Cleans up working area, maintains tools and returns them when assignment complete.
  • Reports to foreman at end of each day to leave timecard and receives next days’ assignment.
  • Listens and coordinates with team members and available resources to ensure every team member can be their best self, analyzes and resolves work obstacles and assists in solving problems.
  • Inspires and promotes personal development goals of all team members.
  • Learn to operate new pieces of equipment and other tasks associated with paving.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Previous related experience in the construction field is a plus.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Must have a valid driver's license and a vehicle to get to the job site.

Other Qualifications

Ability to work seasonally. Typically April - November but could be called in during the winter for work as weather allows.
