Job Description:
** Summary
* * The Department of Apparel, Events, and Hospitality Management in the College of Health and Human Services is seeking an
** Academic Advisor I
** to provide comprehensive, student‑centered academic advising services. This position supports current and prospective students and their families by offering guidance on majors, minors, course planning, academic policies, and probation processes. The advisor will help students navigate their academic pathways while connecting them with campus resources that promote wellbeing and success, including academic support services, counseling, and financial aid. This role plays a key part in fostering student achievement, belonging, and retention through proactive outreach, individualized support, and collaborative problem‑solving.
** Example of Duties*
* • Advises students concerning degree planning, academic support services, academic policy issues, graduation requirements, degree certification, degree auditing, etc.
• Assists students in making personal education decisions and meeting graduation requirements including course selections.
• Refers students to appropriate resources such as counseling, academic success, financial aid, etc.
• Interprets academic policies and procedures to support student success.
• Teaches orientation courses.
• Presents at orientation or other events.
• Participates in recruitment activities.
• Advises learning communities.
• Advises student organizations.
• May supervise students.
** Level Guidelines*
* • Individual contributor position with developing professional and/or technical skills working under immediate to general supervision
• Grasps professional-level knowledge and concepts of field while working in a progressive learning mode
• Works on problems and issues of somewhat limited scope
• Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data for which answers are available or can be obtained
• Responds to inquiries and issues, escalating to manager or higher level workers as appropriate
• May lead projects of limited scope and complexity
• May provide guidance to students
