Ames High School is seeking a Science Teacher for the 2026-27 school year.

Under the direction of the High School Administration, provide students with learning activities and experiences in the areas of Science. Plan instructional lessons that meet the needs, interests and abilities of students; create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning; and employ effective instructional techniques.

• Exhibits a comprehensive understanding of content, discipline, and related pedagogy, aligned with Iowa Core Standards, including science practices.
• Prioritizes educational equity and improvement for all students.
• Develops and implements timely lesson plans fulfilling district curriculum and demonstrating preparation, including accommodations / modifications for individual needs.
• Plans and uses appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology reflecting individual student learning styles and needs.
• Employs a variety of instructional techniques, integrates technology and media consistent with student needs.
• Works to ensure high learning, social–emotional, and achievement outcomes for all students.
• Reviews and analyzes multiple data sources, including formative and summative assessment, to measure student growth aligned to goals and adjust instruction.
• Interacts respectfully with students, maintaining a safe, supportive learning environment with clear expectations and efficient routines.
• Assists in selecting resources, equipment, and other instructional materials.
• Maintains accurate records as required by law, district policy, and state standards.
• Establishes open communication with students and parents about academic and behavioral progress.
• Holds to highest standards for professional development, leadership, collaboration, ethics, and district policies.
• Applies personal and professional growth through technology, independent research, and district professional development.

• Valid Iowa teaching license with 5–12 Earth Science endorsement plus either 5–12 Physical Science or 5–12 Physics endorsement.
• 5–12 All Science endorsement preferred.
• Previous high school science teaching experience preferred.
