Substitute Teachers Needed

Ames Community School District is seeking substitute teachers for the 2026-27 school year. Enjoy a flexible schedule - work when and where you want: preschool, elementary, or secondary grades. These on part-time, on-call substitute positions.

Responsibilities/

Essential Functions:

• Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans.
• Establishes rapport and remains focused on student needs to maximize learning.
• Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
• Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned.
• Maintains a professional appearance as example to students.
• Remains at school the entire school day, unless otherwise instructed or listed in assigned position.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintains reasonable rules of conduct which encourages self-discipline and responsibility.
• Creates a sense of belonging and welcoming environment for all students and staff.
• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Possess a valid Iowa Substitute License, Substitute Authorization, or Iowa Teaching License.
• Must be adaptable, collaborative, and an effective problem-solver.
• Must complete the required training within 30 days of being activated as a substitute in the substitute system.

Compensation: $155/full day; $165/full day for retiree of Ames CSD
