We are seeking a Professional Engineer (PE) Licensed Engineering Manager to lead our Mechanical Engineering Department in Ames, IA. This is a senior leadership role responsible for managing mechanical design projects, engineering staff, and ensuring high-quality delivery of HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and oversee all mechanical engineering and design work produced by the team
- Manage full-cycle design, layout, and execution of engineering projects (MEP systems)
- Develop in-house engineering drawings, detailed designs, and conceptual layouts
- Ensure accuracy, performance, and compliance of all engineering deliverables
- Coordinate HVAC, piping, and plumbing system design across projects
- Serve as primary contact for external consultants, vendors, and project partners
- Schedule and manage engineering staff workload in coordination with project managers
- Attend client meetings, design reviews, and construction coordination meetings
- Establish, implement, and maintain engineering standards and best practices
- Mentor, train, and evaluate engineering team members
- Oversee multiple concurrent projects with varying complexity
- Utilize Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks for design coordination
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Construction, or related Engineering field
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) License required
- 7+ years of engineering experience in MEP / HVAC / construction-related fields
- 5+ years of leadership or engineering management experience
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening
