Description

This is a full-time, direct placement role at Resource Consulting Engineers, LLC.

Resource Consulting Engineers, LLC is a Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Consulting Engineering firm, primarily focused on services related to building analysis, design, and construction administration services. The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for performing and/or overseeing all aspects of electrical systems design for our projects. Future oversight of other electrical engineering personnel is also likely. The ideal candidate is expected to take a leadership role within the firm, and will work directly with clients, performing both technical engineering and project management roles.

The Mission

Resource Consulting Engineers designs mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for the institutions that shape Iowa and Nebraska communities - K-12 schools, universities like Iowa State, and civic facilities. Our focus is creating Healthy Learning Environments where students thrive and learning happens. If you want your engineering work to have tangible impact on your community, this is the place.

About the Role

We're hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer (5+ years experience) for our Ames or West Des Moines office. You'll lead electrical design for education and civic projects, working directly with clients and project teams. At 10 people growing to 20+, early team members shape our future leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Lead electrical design for K-12 schools, higher education facilities, and civic buildings across Iowa.
  • Work directly with clients and architects, managing projects from concept through construction.
  • Typical projects include:
  • Power distribution and lighting design for school additions and renovations
  • Low-voltage systems (fire alarm, security, communications) for campus facilities
  • Electrical infrastructure for university research and classroom buildings
  • Energy-efficient lighting upgrades for government facilities
  • Coordinate with our mechanical engineers, review contractor submittals, respond to RFIs during construction, and mentor junior staff as we grow.
  • This isn't production drafting - it's full-cycle project leadership.
Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer license in Iowa (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • 5+ years designing electrical systems for buildings
  • Experience with power distribution, lighting, and low-voltage systems
  • Proficiency in Revit for electrical design
  • Strong communication skills for client interaction and team coordination
