The Iowa State University Police Department is seeking a Mental Health Advocate Supervisor to lead the Mental Health Advocate (MHA) Program. This role bridges the gap between mental health services and public safety, ensuring students, faculty, and staff receive essential care and support.

• Make an Impact – Play a key role in threat management, crisis response, and campus safety.
• Lead & Collaborate – Supervise 1-2 staff members, work with senior leadership, and serve on high-level committees.
• Train & Educate – Conduct mental health and crisis intervention training for police officers, students, and faculty.
• Community Engagement – Partner with law enforcement, faculty, students, and external agencies to improve mental health awareness.
• Professional Growth – Develop expertise in program development, crisis case management, and public relations.

• Manage & Develop the MHA Program, implementing mental health initiatives for ISU PD and the university.
• Provide Crisis Intervention – Assess and respond to harassment, stalking, assaults, and alcohol-related incidents.
• Lead Training Sessions – Educate police, faculty, and students on crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
• Support & Advocate – Review ISU PD reports, conduct outreach, and accompany officers on mental health crisis calls.
• Enhance Policies & Programs – Develop strategies to strengthen mental health advocacy and campus safety.

• Mental Health Expertise – Experience in crisis intervention and support.
• Criminal Justice Collaboration – Experience working with law enforcement or willingness to learn.
• Strong Communication Skills – Ability to engage with various campus populations in a compassionate and professional manner.
• Passion for Community Outreach – Committed to proactive mental health education and engagement.

Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals

Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues

Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems

Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests

May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff

May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
