Operator II‑Microbiology
Reporting to the Area Manager, the Operator II‑Microbiology sets up and operates automatic or semi‑automatic machines and related equipment in a continuous production/processing operation. The position monitors meters, gauges, valves, flow ratios, temperatures, pressures, and related controls to ensure adherence to production/process specifications. The operator follows engineering drawings, work order information, Manufacturing Assembly Procedures, SOPs, and other written and verbal specifications.
Installation, modification, movement, troubleshooting, repair, and dismantling of machinery and equipment are performed according to SOPs, layout plans, blueprints, or other drawings. The operator also performs set‑up, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of circuits, components, instruments, and mechanical assemblies. Assembly of mechanical units, fabricated parts/components, and/or electrical/electronic systems is carried out using hand tools, power tools, jigs, fixtures, and miscellaneous equipment.
This role is part of the Production Operations Department located in Ames, IA and is on‑site.
- Responsible for producing quality products per the build signal.
- Product packaging and handling.
- Machine set‑up and equipment operation.
- Gather materials and set‑up straightforward equipment.
- Maintain quality of products produced according to department standards and visual or dimensional specifications.
- Provide assistance within the department to ensure all chemistries are made in accordance with the schedule.
- Record and maintain quality or traceability information, including final product quality control.
- Comply with company safety policies including safe operation of equipment, PPE usage, hand tool safety, lock‑out‑tag‑out, and proper storage of tools. Comply with good housekeeping policies.
- Maintain equipment according to work instructions or preventive maintenance tasks; perform some troubleshooting and minor repair of equipment.
- Accurately perform required computer data entry and work order transactions (LOTS, scrap, Oracle, ARIBA, kanban, DRP, etc.).
- Report complicated equipment malfunctions to mechanics.
- May be responsible for handling of and accurate disposal of chemical and non‑chemical waste, some of which is hazardous and regulated.
- Maintain visual management of part and raw material storage; clean and organized work area.
- Work with team members to review load and capacity information to make recommendations to ensure optimum utilization of personnel and/or resources.
- Assist in design, implementation and problem solving of new equipment and products.
- Work with manager to suggest and initiate changes to process, machines, or procedures that improve safety, quality, delivery, or productivity.
- Suggest improvements and support kaizen and VES activities.
- Record and maintain Cell Boards and other visual management tools.
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent required.
- Six months production experience preferred.
- Six months mechanical experience, sterile production cleanroom or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to learn machine operations (including set‑up and changeover), and/or kitting.
- Some areas will require the ability to work with manual and/or power equipment.
