Chemical Technician II – Bulk Solutions (2nd Shift)

Location:

Ames, IA. This onsite role is for the 2nd Shift (2:00 pm – 12:00 am CT), Monday through Thursday.

Responsibilities
  • Make bulk solutions per existing formularies.
  • Perform production controls and adjust bulk reagents to meet product specifications.
  • Release conforming materials to processing, packaging, or stock in a timely manner.
  • Operate all manufacturing equipment safely, maintaining equipment in proper working condition.
  • Maintain clean production and lab areas.
  • Follow the production schedule and communicate with leadership and downstream pack lines when roadblocks occur.
  • Comply with company safety policies, including safe equipment operation, PPE usage, safe transportation and handling of bulk chemicals, hand tool safety, lock‑out‑tag‑out, and proper storage of tools. Follow housekeeping policies.
  • Keep accurate production and inventory records; follow Kanban process.
  • Accurately perform required computer data entry and work order transactions (LOTS, scrap, Oracle, Kanban).
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year completed college chemistry with laboratory experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year scientific production, process, or lab technician experience; alternatively a Bachelor of Science degree with no experience.
Desired Skills
  • Strong laboratory technique.
  • Proficient analytical technique (volumetric glassware, dilutions, titrations).
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Demands
  • Occasional reaching with hands and arms; constant sitting; occasional squatting, turning, or reaching; constant hand use, keyboard use.
  • Walking, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching or crawling, talking, hearing, smelling.
  • Frequently lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, focus adjustment.
Work Environment
  • Potential exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures and workspace restrictions.
  • Environment occasionally noisy.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment – eye, hearing, respiratory protection, protective smock, steel‑toe shoes, gloves, hard hats or face shields; no contacts allowed.
