Postdoctoral Research Associate

The Chemical and Biological Science Division at Ames Laboratory, a Department of Energy National Laboratory affiliated with Iowa State University, seeks a qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate to develop biological imaging instrumentation and methods. The role involves designing and building sub‑diffraction fluorescence imaging systems and multimodal fluorescence and infrared imaging platforms, developing data analysis methods, and applying these tools to study model biomolecules and biomass systems.

• Design, construct, and calibrate optical imaging instrumentation.
• Develop advanced data analysis techniques for sub‑diffraction fluorescence and multimodal imaging.
• Apply imaging methods to investigate biological and biomass systems.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of physical scientists, molecular biologists, and engineers.
• Communicate findings through presentations and manuscripts.

One‑year postdoctoral appointment with opportunity for renewal.

• Ph.D. completed prior to the start date.
• Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field.

• Extensive experience developing optical imaging systems, including designing, setting up, and aligning optics.
• Expertise in sub‑diffraction optical imaging instrumentation and its application to biological systems.
• Proficiency with standard molecular biology techniques, including work with enzymes, cells, and sterile methods.
• Experience disseminating research results via public presentations and written manuscripts.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and mentoring laboratory members.
• A publication record and curriculum vitae that demonstrate the above qualifications.
