SR Scientist, Clinical

About the Role

As an employee of Boehringer Ingelheim, you will actively contribute to the discovery, development, and delivery of our products to patients and customers. This senior scientist position focuses on the safety and efficacy of new animal pharmaceutical and biological research and development projects, line extensions, and maintaining existing licensed products. You will design and execute clinical studies from protocol through final report, represent the function on development teams and regulatory meetings, and lead clinical teams as needed.

• Initiate and coordinate strategic scientific experiments, developing new methodologies and protocols.
• Own overall study design, execution, and reporting to achieve project milestones.
• Design clinical studies to support label claims and new product licenses/marketing authorizations in compliance with regulatory guidance and animal welfare principles.
• Lead or oversee experimental study design and data analysis of junior scientists.
• Provide expert guidance on project‑relevant technologies and propose innovations.
• Keep abreast of relevant literature and publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals, present at national/international meetings.
• Collaborate across functions to ensure efficient delivery of clinical plans and continuous improvement of study processes.
• Develop relationships with external providers, academia, and CROs.
• Mentor and train colleagues, especially clinical research associates/monitors.
• Provide technical content for regulatory submissions and lead clinical discussions in authority meetings.
• Assume leadership for clinical programs within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Interact with project leaders, team members, and stakeholders on clinical progress, timelines, deliverables, and budget.
• Ensure compliance with GSP, GLP, GCP, PV, and animal welfare regulations.
• Lead internal initiatives such as SOP development, patent filings, and due diligence.

• DVM preferred with five years of experience in a related field and proven track record.
• PhD in a veterinary‑relevant field with five years of experience and proven track record.
• Master’s Degree with ten years of experience in a related field and proven track record.
• Board certification and/or advanced degree (MS or PhD) in addition to DVM is a plus.
• Clinical veterinary practice experience preferred.
• Interest in developing therapeutics a plus.
• At least five years of broad experience or equivalent education/experience.
• Demonstrated industry‑leading knowledge of the field.
• Analytical thinker with strong leadership skills.
• Capability to lead a Clinical team without formal authority.
• Experience in research methodology, project/program management, product life‑cycle process.
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
• Customer‑service orientation, ability to deliver results in a fast focus environment.
• Exceptional planning and organizational skills with quality orientation.
• Willingness to travel >10% annually.
• Fluent in English, written and spoken.
• Leadership experience of 1–3 years leading projects.

• Legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
• Willing to take a drug test and post‑offer physical if required.
• 18 years of age or older.
