Immediate opening for a Network Fiber Technician in Ames, IA.
As a Network Fiber Technician you will be responsible for the terminating, splicing, bonding/grounding, documenting, and testing of fiber optic cables within the systems fiber optic networks and related equipment with the goal of maximum operating efficiency.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Perform setup, testing, and maintenance required for Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) installation of POTS, DSL, and Networking services.
- Install and maintain CPE Local Area Networks (LAN) and WiFi networks.
- Install and maintain network interface devices (NID) and Optical Network Terminals (ONT).
- Perform skilled troubleshooting from the Main Distribution Frame (MDF) to the demarcation point including CPE.
- Respond to trouble tickets within acceptable company timeframe standards.
- Install Outside Plant (OSP) facilities according to engineered work orders or service orders.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and major repairs to distribution systems.
- Perform cable/fiber testing and splicing.
- Locate fiber optic cabling.
- Record and report all record changes immediately.
- Complete inventory replenish requests as needed.
- Ability to work other duties as assigned
- Available to travel for training as needed.
- Perform on-call rotation duties after regular business hours as needed.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One to two years in the telecommunications industry or related experience.
- Some trade school training is desired.
- Professional demeanor with customers and colleagues.
- Meet key performance metrics.
- Physical ability to work in various conditions, including adverse weather.
- Physical ability to work from a kneeling or standing position for long periods.
- Physical ability to climb ladders up to 25 feet with proper equipment.
- Able to lift and carry loads up to 75 lbs including ladder.
- Ability to work with basic hand tools and other specialized equipment with training.
- Operate and maintain company vehicle/equipment safely, including a DOT certified bucket truck and trailer.
- Available to work overtime when necessary, may include holidays and weekends.
- Willingness to work as a team and independently.
