About the Organization

We are working with a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing supportive services to the individuals and community they serve to help them find an HR Manager for their team. This is a great opportunity for an experienced HR professional who enjoys being a hands-on, trusted resource in a small organization and wants to make a meaningful impact.

This position is essentially a standalone HR role, partnering closely with the Executive Director.

About the Role

The HR Manager will oversee the organization's day-to-day human resources functions while also serving as a strategic and supportive partner to leadership and employees. This is a hands-on HR Generalist/Manager position encompassing recruitment, employee relations, payroll, benefits, compliance, performance management, HR policies, and employee engagement.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities, and being the go-to HR resource for a small organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment, including job postings, screening, interviewing, and offers
  • Serve as a trusted HR resource for employees and managers
  • Handle employee relations matters with professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
  • Administer biweekly payroll for employees in partnership with an external payroll provider
  • Manage employee benefits, leave administration, and workers' compensation
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS/payroll systems
  • Develop, update, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and the employee handbook
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and applicable regulations
  • Support performance evaluations, professional development, retention, and employee engagement initiatives
  • Partner with the Executive Director and leadership on workforce planning and organizational needs
  • Track HR metrics and prepare reports for leadership and the Board as needed
  • Help promote a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven workplace culture
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality when handling sensitive employee information
  • Support other HR and organizational initiatives as needed
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience with generalist or manager-level responsibilities
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of HR best practices and employment law
  • Experience with HRIS and payroll systems
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
  • HR certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR is a plus
  • Strong employee relations, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership in a one-person HR department
  • Excellent organization, attention to detail, and follow-through
  • Strong computer skills, including Excel, Word, Teams, and web-based applications
  • Experience in nonprofit, human services, behavioral health, or residential program environments is preferred
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with leadership, clinicians, employees, and community stakeholders
  • 24-30 hours per week
  • Primarily onsite
  • Some flexibility to work remotely when necessary due to appointments, weather, or other circumstances
  • Primarily office-based, with some movement throughout the facility as needed
