Job SummaryThe General Carpenter is responsible for performing a wide range of carpentry tasks in support of manufacturing operations within NELCO’s Amesbury facility. This role requires strong craftsmanship, the ability to interpret blueprints, and the skill to work with precision while maintaining a safe and clean work environment. The General Carpenter supports production needs and contributes to high-quality construction, fabrication, and installation projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform general carpentry work as assigned to support manufacturing and production needs.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings to understand project specifications and requirements.
- Take precise measurements and cut materials to exact specifications, ensuring accuracy and quality.
- Select appropriate materials based on project needs and ensure all work meets required standards.
- Prepare job sites and work areas, including setting up tools, equipment, and materials while maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Follow all health and safety procedures to ensure personal, team, and environmental safety.
- Operate a variety of power tools, including circular saws, nail guns, drills, sanders, and other equipment as needed.
- Assist with fabrication, assembly, installation, and finishing of components as required.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks and prioritize work.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition and report any issues promptly.
- This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
- 2+ years of carpentry or general construction experience.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong measurement and cutting skills with high attention to detail.
- Experience operating standard carpentry power tools and equipment.
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks as required.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Commitment to workplace safety.
- Experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial carpentry setting.
- Knowledge of basic construction math and material properties.
- Familiarity with shop‑floor safety protocols.
While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to move throughout the carpentry and manufacturing areas to access materials, tools, machinery, and workstations. The role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and handling of materials.
The individual must be able to safely operate standard carpentry and shop equipment, including saws, sanders, drills, nail guns, and other power or hand tools. The employee must also be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds as needed.
The staff members frequently communicate with supervisors and team members to exchange accurate information regarding project requirements, safety, and daily tasks. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, especially when working with power tools and precise measurements.
This position operates in a carpentry shop / manufacturing environment where noise levels can be loud sonal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel‑toe footwear must be worn as required.
