In this role, you’ll be responsible for repairing, refinishing, and maintaining fiberglass boat surfaces, ensuring vessels meet high-quality standards. You’ll work on a variety of marine projects, contributing to a busy service department that handles hundreds of boats annually. Your expertise will play a key role in delivering excellent results and supporting a strong customer experience.
Responsibilities including:- Prepare wood, fiberglass, and metal surfaces for painting through sanding, masking, stripping, and priming
- Apply paint, gelcoat, primers, putty, and other coatings using spray guns, brushes, and rollers
- Perform fiberglass and composite repairs on boat hulls, decks, and components
- Match and apply gelcoat and paint finishes with precision
- Operate hand and power tools such as grinders, sanders, scrapers, and pneumatic tools
- Inspect boats and assess fiberglass finishes and repair needs
- Buff, polish, and finish surfaces to achieve high-quality results
- Repair or install components such as decals, emblems, and rub rails
- Work with poly and epoxy resins and polyurethane paints
- Follow OSHA and environmental regulations for material handling and disposal
- Maintain clear communication and provide status updates on assigned work
- Protect surrounding components while performing repairs and finishing tasks
- 3+ years of marine fiberglass/gelcoat technician experience
- Background working in a boatyard or marina environment
- Proficiency in fiberglass prep, repair, sanding, and finishing techniques
- Experience with gelcoat matching, buffing, and polishing
- Ability to use a wide range of hand and power tools
- Strong understanding of marine painting and composite materials
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and safety procedures
- Effective communication skills and teamwork mindset
- Adaptability in a fast-paced work environment
- Understanding of OSHA and environmental safety standards
