Amherst College invites applications for the Graduate Production Assistant position. The Graduate Production Assistant is a full-time, fixed-term position. The expected salary range for this job opportunity is: $20.02 to $20.50 per hour.

The Theater and Dance Department Graduate Production Assistant is a recent graduate who has studied and expressed an interest in developing technical production skills in one or more areas of scenic, costumes, lighting and sound. In addition, depending on the graduate's longer-term career goals, the position can include opportunities to do stage management, design or directing work for the department, as available.

The Graduate Production Assistant works closely with the Theater and Dance Faculty and Production Staff to develop and execute work that is presented as part of the academic production season. The Graduate Production Assistant will work with and help support a highly diverse group of student employees.

The Graduate Production Assistant will take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment. In support of this goal, the Graduate Production Assistant will help to guide a highly diverse group of student workers. The Graduate Production Assistant will also be involved in designing the Department of Theater and Dance's academic production season, which is designed with an eye toward providing inclusive performance opportunities for all members of the 5 College community.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Graduate Production Assistant has duties related to the academic production program in three main areas;
Assist the Production Staff in the physical execution of design elements required for the successful presentation of the academic production season. This includes, but is not limited to, work in areas of scenic carpentry, theatrical lighting, sound, video, costuming, and upkeep of the theater facilities.

Support and mentor current Theater and Dance students in the development of their artistic work related to the academic production season.

Assignments in support of the Department production program. Some examples might include: attending evening rehearsals and working with student stage managers, attending technical rehearsals and training backstage crews, and helping designers and staff with research and acquisition of props and other design materials.

Qualifications:

Required

Bachelor's degree; recent college graduate.

1 to 3 years of related experience.

Equivalent combination of education/experience, in lieu of minimum education and related experience; production experience in a college theater environment.

Theater training in design or other areas related to technical production support.

Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, and time-management skills.

Attention to detail.

Frequent work outside college operating hours.

Successful completion of required reference and background checks.

An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check.

Preferred

Design, or other production support background developed through involvement with the Amherst College Department of Theater and Dance curriculum.
