Special Education Teacher – Summit Academy

Summit Academy, the in‑district public day‑school of the Amherst‑Pelham Regional School District, is seeking a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certified Special Education teacher. The teacher will primarily teach middle‑school students (grades 7‑12), with the schedule occasionally including high‑school classes.

The school provides a small, therapeutic, highly supervised learning environment for students with IEPs. Counseling services are integrated throughout the school experience.

• Effective classroom management and positive behavior management techniques.
• Preparing, adapting, and delivering differentiated lessons, assignments, and assessments.
• Experience in small group instruction.
• Preparing and adapting teaching materials.
• Checking and assessing student work and providing meaningful feedback.
• Participation in IEP meetings.
• Liaison and regular communication with families, professionals, and outside agencies.
• Providing written input for IEPs and progress reports.
• Collaboration and coordination with para educators.
• Collaboration and consultation with related service providers.
• Collaboration and consultation with mental health team providers.
• Use of assistive technology to promote student achievement.

• Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Moderate Disabilities certification for grades 7‑12.
• Mandatory possession of the Department’s Special Education license for grades 7‑12.
• Bilingual proficiency and multicultural background encouraged.
• Citizenship or valid work authorization.

Position type: Full‑time

Salary: $51,302 to $92,079 per semester.
