Role Description The Comparative Literature Tenure Track Faculty member will teach undergraduate courses in comparative literature, including introductory surveys, thematic courses, and advanced seminars. Responsibilities include developing inclusive syllabi, delivering engaging classroom instruction, mentoring students in academic and professional pathways, and supervising independent study or thesis projects. The faculty member will pursue an active research agenda, publish scholarly work, and present at conferences, while contributing to the intellectual life of the department and the College.
Service responsibilities include participation in departmental and college committees, curriculum development, and collaborative initiatives that support Wellesley’s mission of women’s leadership and global engagement. This is a full-time, on-site role located in Amherst, MA, requiring regular on-campus presence for teaching, office hours, meetings, and campus events.
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Comparative Literature or a closely related field, with a strong record or clear potential for scholarly research and publication.
- Demonstrated excellence or strong potential in undergraduate teaching, including experience designing inclusive, student-centered courses and assessments.
- Expertise in comparative approaches to literature across languages, cultures, periods, or genres; ability to teach both survey and specialized courses.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to supporting students from a wide range of backgrounds and identities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments and participate constructively in departmental and college service.
- Strong communication, mentoring, and advising skills, with a willingness to engage actively in campus life and support student development.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development, such as conference presentations, interdisciplinary projects, or engagement with emerging scholarship.
- Familiarity with or interest in global, transnational, or intersectional perspectives in literary studies; experience with multiple languages is highly beneficial.
