Lecturer in Landscape Architecture

Job Summary

The Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning (LARP) invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Landscape Architecture expected to start on September 1, 2027.

We are looking for an inspiring individual to serve as teacher, mentor and leader in our professional accredited Landscape Architecture programs. Teaching responsibilities include a 3:3 teaching load. We are particularly interested in applicants capable of teaching a variety of undergraduate landscape architecture studios as well as any one of several possible mixed undergraduate/graduate seminars -- such as a professional practice seminar, graphics/digital technologies, landscape history & theory, construction/ materials, or other topics that suit the specialties and interests of the selected candidate.

LARP faculty also mentor graduate and honors students on their capstone projects and serve as guest critics in other studios. All classes are taught in-person at our flagship campus in Amherst.

The selected candidate will also serve as director and primary advisor for students in our Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture (BSLA) undergraduate program. Typical responsibilities include advising majors on course offering and scheduling, career advice, curricular development, helping promote LARP and our landscape architecture program(s), as well as periodically preparing materials for accreditation and internal reporting. Workload and course assignments will be adjusted to commensurate with service responsibilities associated with directing the BSLA undergraduate program.

Should those administrative responsibilities change or be reassigned, the teaching load will return to the standard 3:3.

Applicants must have an MLA as of September 1, 2027, as well as at least five years of experience in Landscape Architecture or a closely related profession.

The ideal candidate is expected to demonstrate evidence of teaching effectiveness; a strong commitment to pedagogical innovation and adaptation; the ability to work collaboratively with others; and a deep interest in advancing student success.

Studio and classroom teaching experience in a research university setting is strongly preferred.

Professional or academic experience relevant to advising students and directing an academic program is also strongly preferred.

Relevant professional experience in Landscape Architecture, including licensure, is a plus.
