Grocery shop & read mail with a blind woman in Amherst, MA!
Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (MABVI) offers a community volunteer program where volunteers assist visually impaired adults with tasks such as grocery shopping and mail reading. MABVI currently needs volunteers in the Boston region willing to travel 10–15 miles. One volunteer will support a participant in Amherst, MA, who requires help grocery shopping and reading mail. A vehicle is needed, and the volunteer must be comfortable around a guide dog.
The volunteer will provide support once a week or bimonthly.
- Reading mail
- Paying bills
- Internet Use/Technology
- Medical Transportation
- Going grocery shopping
- Running errands in the community
- Recreational activities such as being a running/walking sighted guide
- Other clerical tasks
This opportunity is flexible based on your match’s needs. Volunteers typically devote 1–2 hours a week or every other week.
Training and Onboarding- Complete a MABVI Volunteer application
- Complete the online, modular MABVI Volunteer Training
- Schedule a time to chat via Zoom with a member of the MABVI Volunteer Team or submit a CORI
- Meet the MABVI Volunteer Team via Zoom or phone call
- MABVI matches you with a MABVI participant
