Job SummaryUnder the general direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager, the Clinical Registered Nurse triages, assesses, and provides patient care for illness, injury, and general health concerns for all patients using University Health Services (UHS). Services are provided during regular clinic hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Essential Functions- Provide age‑appropriate nursing care through the nursing process; determine severity of patient problems based on data collection and patient history, identifying routine, urgent, or emergent nature.
- Administer nursing care, treatments, medications, and patient care plans as ordered by provider (MD/NP/PA); communicate and document patient responses and changes in condition accurately.
- Maintain current knowledge in nursing practice, emergency procedures, equipment, and supplies; keep precise problem‑oriented health records; consider safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering care.
- Use Universal Precautions when exposed to blood and body fluids; adhere to UHS policies, including care of sexual assault patients as a designated state SANE site.
- Provide patient education on prevention, healthy lifestyle promotion, age‑appropriate health concerns, and appropriate use of medical services.
- Perform duties as assigned.
- Participate in quality improvement programs, peer review, and continuing education.
- Assist in RN Clinical rotation and provide coverage for allergy/travel RN, as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited BSN program with at least 3 years progressively responsible general clinical experience, or an associate degree from an accredited nursing program with at least 5 years clinical experience equivalent to the BSN.
- Current license to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Certified in basic CPR at hire and bi‑annually renewed.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to lift and transfer patients.
- Understand responsibilities related to Title IV, Clery, and other compliance requirements.
- Demonstrate capacity, skill, and willingness to engage students and contribute to student success.
- Adhere to responsibilities concerning conflicts of interest, respecting law and University policy.
- Contribute toward creating a positive, respectful workplace defined by competence, integrity, and collaboration.
- Support non‑discrimination and inclusive environment aligned with departmental and institutional goals.
- Use sensitive and confidential university information appropriately.
This position is designated as essential personnel.
Working ConditionsWork is performed in a laboratory or healthcare setting and may involve exposure to chemicals or infectious diseases. Requires standing for extended periods or use of protective gear.
Work Schedule and Work Arrangement37.5 hours per week; schedule will include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Salary InformationPay Grade: PSSAP Grade 29
