Biomedical Equipment Technician II – Operating Room / Surgical Equipment

We are seeking an experienced Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET II) with a strong background supporting Operating Room and surgical equipment within an acute-care hospital environment.

This individual will be responsible for the inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and ongoing support of biomedical equipment used throughout the OR and perioperative environment. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working directly with surgical teams and is comfortable troubleshooting critical equipment in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Anesthesia equipment experience is helpful but is not a primary requirement. The biggest priority is experience supporting the broader surgical equipment portfolio.

• Perform preventive maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of biomedical equipment throughout the Operating Room and perioperative areas.
• Support surgical equipment including, but not limited to:
• Electrosurgical Units (ESUs)
• Dornoch / surgical fluid management systems
• Surgical suction and evacuation equipment
• OR tables and related surgical equipment
• Surgical lights and related OR devices
• Pumps, monitors, and other perioperative biomedical equipment
• Diagnose equipment failures and complete repairs efficiently to minimize disruption to surgical operations.
• Respond to urgent equipment issues during active OR operations and coordinate with clinical staff to determine appropriate resolution.
• Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance and electrical safety inspections according to manufacturer, hospital, and regulatory standards.
• Document service activity, repairs, inspections, and equipment history within the organization's CMMS.
• Coordinate with manufacturers and third-party vendors when advanced repair or OEM support is required.
• Maintain accurate inventory and service records for assigned biomedical equipment.
• Partner closely with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia staff, surgical technicians, and other perioperative stakeholders.
• Ensure equipment is safe, functional, and available to support patient care.

• 3+ years of Biomedical Equipment Technician experience within a hospital or acute-care environment.
• Demonstrated experience supporting Operating Room / surgical equipment

• Hands-on troubleshooting and repair experience with multiple OR device categories, particularly equipment such as:
• ESUs
• Surgical fluid management systems
• Strong electrical, electronic, and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to interpret service manuals, schematics, error codes, and manufacturer documentation.
• Experience completing preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance independently.
• Comfortable working directly with clinical teams in high-acuity environments.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.

• Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
• CBET or other biomedical certification.
• Experience supporting Dornoch or similar surgical fluid/waste management equipment.
• Experience with equipment from manufacturers such as Stryker, Medtronic, Olympus, Karl Storz, CONMED, ERBE, Steris, or similar surgical equipment manufacturers.
• Familiarity with CMMS platforms used for biomedical asset and service management.
• Anesthesia equipment experience is a plus but not required

The strongest candidate will be a well-rounded BMET who has spent meaningful time supporting an active surgical department and can independently handle the breadth of equipment found in an OR
. Someone whose experience is primarily limited to general patient-care equipment or anesthesia equipment would be less aligned than a technician with strong hands-on surgical equipment experience.
