Job Summary
The Speech Pathologist at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for patient evaluation and treatment planning, supervision of interns, and maintaining productivity levels. The Speech Pathologist must also exhibit effective leadership skills, coordination with other therapy disciplines, and adherence to regulations while demonstrating problem‑solving abilities and ensuring patient satisfaction through skillful clinical decisions.
Job Functions- Supervises student interns.
- Maintains productivity level at department target.
- Evaluates and establishes treatment plan for any patient referred to Speech Pathology.
- Clinically competent in assessment, treatment, and use of equipment as appropriate for the clinical area.
- Attends and provides continuing education in‑servicing.
- Serves as mentor for new employee(s) or volunteers.
- Serves as clinical instructor after one year of experience as a clinician.
- Completes documentation according to all regulations and in a timely manner.
- May be required to cover other areas of rehab within limits.
- Must demonstrate unique knowledge and skills to provide speech therapy services for neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
- Remains within monthly budget when ordering equipment and supplies.
- Charges patients appropriately and in a timely manner for treatment and equipment.
- Must be competent in use of computer for documentation and charging purposes.
- Master’s Degree in Speech‑Language Pathology (required).
- Licensed Speech Pathologist (SP‑L) – must hold a state license based on facility location (required).
- CPR – Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (current BLS CPR certification) (required).
- Certificate of Clinical Competence – Speech‑Language Pathology (CCC‑SLP) within 1 year of hire (required).
- Minimum 0 years; 1+ year required for instructor role.
- Competency in assessment and treatment of neonates/infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
- Leadership: plan, organize, and implement patient treatment.
- Coordinate patient treatment schedule with PT, PTA, OT, COTA, SLP, and Rehab Technicians.
- Participate in PI projects, committees, and teams and report as appropriate.
- Establish and revise treatment protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Human Relations: interact with team members, physicians, nursing personnel, social workers, payors, case managers, and other medical staff in person, by phone, and written correspondence.
- Extensive contact with patients and visitors both in person and by phone.
