SUMMARY

The job of IT Technician was established for the purpose(s) of performing on-site technical work to troubleshoot, install, and repair servers and technology equipment throughout the district.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree or certification in a field related to computer networking or equivalent combination of education and experience in troubleshooting computer software and hardware problems and supporting users in a network environment.
  • Proficient in Linux, Mac, and Windows operating systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of information system hardware and software troubleshooting skills and problem resolution.
  • Professional work attitude and appearance.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification(s) in a field related to computer networking such as CompTIA A+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or CompTIA Security+.
  • Experience in supporting hardware and software in an educational environment.
  • Experience with Chromebook repair.
  • Experience with Google Workspace for Education.
  • Experience with Jamf.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with FreePBX.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Environment:
    Standard office and school setting; moderate travel between district sites; exposure to potentially stressful environments; regularly perform inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Physical:
    Sufficient physical ability to perform moderate lifting up to 50 pounds; regularly required to walk, sit, or stand for prolonged periods of time; may require climbing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Vision:
    See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of various networking systems and how different technology systems interact.
  • Knowledge of firewalls, switches, routers, access points.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to communicate technical assistance to all users.
  • Ability to be detail oriented, meet deadlines, and work on multiple tasks at one time.
  • Possess organizational, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • The position reports directly to the IT Director.
  • 12-month work schedule with normal school holidays allowed.
  • Some weekend and evening hours may be required.
  • Performance evaluated annually.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Technical Support
    • Provide timely and professional support to resolve technical issues for staff and students.
    • Troubleshoot and repair hardware, including desktops, laptops, printers, projectors, and interactive whiteboards.
    • Assist with the setup, configuration, and maintenance of student and staff devices (e.g., iPads, Windows/Mac computers).
    • Support and maintain VOIP and Camera systems.
  • Network and System Maintenance
    • Support and maintain district networks, including wired and wireless infrastructure.
    • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
    • Assist in the installation and maintenance of network devices such as switches, access points, and routers.
    • Assist in the installation and maintenance of CAT6 network cabling.
  • Repair Damaged Devices
    • Diagnose hardware issues in damaged devices, including but not limited to
      display, keyboard, battery, motherboard, and connectivity problems. This includes but is not limited to Chromebooks, Desktops, iPads, and Laptops.
    • Perform repairs and replacements of defective or damaged hardware components.
    • Perform quality control checks to ensure the functionality of each device is at a satisfactory level.
    • Maintain and follow safe working procedures and requirements when working with electronic equipment and components.
    • Ensure all repairs are performed with precision and in a timely manner.
    • Maintain and track spare parts inventory.
    • Maintain accurate records of all repairs, installations, and maintenance
      activities, including diagnostics, procedures performed, and parts used.
  • Software and Applications
    • Install, configure, and update software on district devices.
    • Provide training and support for district-approved educational tools, apps, and systems.
    • Ensure compliance with software licensing requirements.
  • Inventory and Documentation
    • Maintain accurate records of hardware, software, and licenses in inventory systems.
