Position: Finance Project Manager (New Ship)

12 month temporary contract / full time

* offered on a 12 month contract basis initially, with possibility of extension subject to local terms.

The successful candidate may be based in one of the following Greenpeace Organizations:
Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Poland and the Netherlands. *

* Other locations that have existing independent Greenpeace National/Regional organisations might be considered on a case by case basis, depending on the hosting capacity availability and compliance, however please note that we can not guarantee hosting ability in every location before we fully assess the situation.

Internal GP network candidates from NROs (not current GPI staff) will be considered on a case by case basis as we cannot guarantee hosting capacity for GPI staff in every location where there is a GP office. We will aim to explore possibilities for qualified GP network candidates.

Greenpeace International is looking for a Finance Project Manager to support the build of the new Greenpeace ship.

The Finance Project Manager plays a critical role in overseeing the financial aspects of the shipbuilding project, ensuring fiscal responsibility, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements. They will work closely with the project team, senior management, and external stakeholders to manage budgets, analyse costs, and provide strategic financial guidance throughout the project lifecycle. The role will be fully dedicated to the new ship project as per the needs of the project, and it could also support other finance cross‑functional projects depending on the time available.

this role you
  • Develop comprehensive project budgets and forecasts, including quarterly income projections, ensuring accuracy and adherence to budgetary constraints.
  • Conduct financial analysis to evaluate project feasibility, identify cost‑saving opportunities, and mitigate financial risks.
  • Provide strategic financial guidance to project teams and senior management to optimise project outcomes.
  • Monitor project income, expenditures, and cash flow projections, implementing corrective actions as necessary to manage liquidity and funding needs.
  • Track project costs (labour, materials, equipment, overhead) and collaborate with project managers and procurement teams to optimise resource allocation and minimise cost overruns.
  • Develop and manage budget processes for initial spare parts and warranty periods.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory agencies for financial audits and inspections.
  • Review and manage the financial aspects of contracts with financial institutions, suppliers, subcontractors, and service providers, ensuring favourable terms.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors, resolving financial disputes professionally.
  • Develop and strengthen strategic working relationships with various stakeholders, ensuring a holistic approach in the financial execution of the new ship build project.
  • Collaborate closely with GPI’s Legal Team to fulfil contractual obligations and adhere to GPI policies.

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CFA) preferred.
  • Proven experience in financial project management roles, ideally within the construction or maritime industry, with a focus on project accounting, financial planning, cost control, and stakeholder management.
