The role of the Director of Religious Education and Music (optional) is to fulfill the mission of the Church by bringing others to Christ, to help them deepen their relationship with him, and to live the gospel message as an example to the faithful. The position as a leadership role supports the parish’s mission in these areas:
1) Catechesis: catechetical formation for high school youth in grades 9-12 and young adults. It is critical that the director be effective in communication and be willing to explore new approaches to Christian Formation and Education including implementation of virtual events and virtual learning/sharing opportunities.
2) Evangelization: to promote the Church’s mission of teaching and encouraging our Catholic community to bring others to Jesus and the sacramental life.
3) Fellowship: Ability to build relationships that reflect compassion, respect, and unity.
4) Music (if qualified):
To lead and coordinate the liturgical music program

• Oversees the implementation and direction of a youth and young adult ministry curriculum that is consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church (such as those approved by the USCCB).
• Prepares for and convenes weekly high school youth group meetings; coordinates and collaborates with youth group volunteers – confirming their proper catechetical/theological training, safe environment (VIRTUS) training, etc.
• Ensures the adequate preparation of middle/high school students to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
• Coordinates the teaching of an annual VIRTUS Teaching Safety lesson, assisting the parish with making the subsequent annual report to the diocese.
• Coordinates and actively communicates with the parents of those students in the youth ministry program.
• Assists in the liturgical planning of the celebration of Confirmation, and other liturgical celebrations as needed.
• Assist with maintaining accurate files and ensuring canonical standards for appropriate Sacramental records.
• Collaborates with the Pastor, other parish ministry leaders, and appropriate committees and councils in evaluation and planning of catechetical and ministry programs, (i.e., promoting an active prayer life; promoting charitable works, service, and ministry opportunities within the youth and young adult programs; promoting and utilizing volunteer participation as much as possible), and budget planning.
• Participates in ongoing professional development and faith formation opportunities provided by the diocese.
• Stays informed of diocesan youth ministry events (e.g. youth retreats, CYC, NCYC), encouraging and coordinating participation of youth and families from the parish.
• Maintains awareness of other diocesan events and programs, particularly in Family Life and Youth Ministry.
• Partner with faith formation leaders of deanery and diocesan parishes, and the Diocese of Helena;attend Deanery DRE meetings.
• Implement ways to reach out to those active, those inactive, families of our youth, and the unchurched in our community.
• Provide opportunities for our youth and young adults to serve others, e.g., assisting the elderly in our community.
• Coordinate fund raising events to benefit youth programs.
• Participate in staff meetings, Pastoral Council meetings, and parish planning.
• Do an annual assessment of the 9-12 and young adult programs.
• Select music for the liturgies on Sundays, Holy Days, and other special services and events.
• Coordinate a monthly schedule for musicians.
• Build up the choir and have regular practices.
• Train cantors and musician as needed.
• Record usage of licensed music.
