Overview
Salary Grade/DBM Level is A132. This class is responsible for performing clerical, receptionist, typing, data entry, and filing duties associated with processing inmates in/out of the detention facility for the Sheriff’s Department.
Responsibilities- Processes and interprets court documents, may interview inmates to ensure they are processed into and released from the detention center, schedule inmates for court appearances and transfers.
- Processes basic forms by reviewing for proper signature, ensuring fields are completed, verifying standard or basic data, and collecting fees. May process property and bonding company bonds when appropriate.
- Performs receptionist duties, such as greeting and assisting customers, answering and directing phone calls, taking messages, and maintaining department and County phone numbers.
- Performs basic office duties, such as copying, filing, faxing, typing standard documents, preparing, sorting, and distributing mail, entering data, and running basic or standard reports.
- Maintains paper and electronic logs, forms, files, and other documents, prepares items for storage or destruction, and assists in maintaining the security and confidentiality of applicable information.
- Assists departments, external customers, and outside agencies concerning the status of inmates and/or court documents, may assist with GCIC/NCIC research and inspecting incoming mail and packages for contraband.
- Work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- One year of customer service experience preferably in a detention center and/or jail.
- Valid driver’s license from state of residency.
- Must obtain Notary Public and GCIC/NCIC certification within one year.
- Must be able to work shifts, weekends and holidays.

- Knowledge of courts, court operations, and judicial terminology.

Full‑time positions only: life, health, dental and disability insurance, pension plan, paid holiday, annual leave, sick leave, deferred compensation. Part‑time positions may have pro‑rated holidays and leave time. Seasonal/Temporary positions do not have benefits.
Physical RequirementsWalking, pushing, pulling, lifting, manual dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amount constantly. Direct contact with inmates is required for processing them in/out of facilities.
