The Marathon Anacortes Refinery is seeking a motivated, team-oriented individual to collaborate with Inspection, Engineering, and other refining personnel to ensure the mechanical integrity and reliability of the refinery operating units.
This position is onsite at Marathon Petroleum’s Anacortes Refinery.
- Provides technical support for updating and implementing Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) strategies.
- Site program owner for:
Integrity Operating Windows (IOWs) and Corrosion Control Documents (CCDs). - Facilitates and participates in corrosion studies to identify potential damage mechanisms and assist in solving material degradation problems.
- Performs failure analyses as needed to support the refinery, and supports incident investigations as they pertain to metallurgy and corrosion.
- Reviews and approves welding and post weld heat treatment procedures; as needed, recommends alternative welding processes.
- Influences the Inspection Group’s procedure development and review process to ensure procedures align with known corrosion engineering best practices.
- Supports Unit Inspectors with non-routine repair decisions during both routine and turnaround periods.
- Directs the analysis and evaluation of failed equipment and/or components and provides a summary of findings, which may include guidelines, recommendations, or operational changes related to materials of construction and their application.
- PHA support; damage mechanisms as site SME.
- Provides stewardship and consulting support for use of online corrosion monitoring techniques.
- Works with Unit Inspectors to ensure inspection plans are adequate based on potential and known damage mechanisms.
- Initiates and/or supports strategies that improve reliability of fixed equipment affecting unit availability.
- Corrosion & Material Diagram site technical approver.
- Initiates programs proactive in preventing safety incidents and costly production losses and ensuring mechanical integrity of fixed equipment assets.
- Networks with Corporate reliability groups including the Corrosion & Materials Advisory Group (CMAG).
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Corrosion Engineering, Metallurgical/Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Must have at least 4 years of experience as a corrosion/materials engineer (preferred experience in the refining or petrochemical industry).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint and Teams.
- Experience with conducting risk assessments, performing failure analysis, and supporting inspection or corrosion engineering activities.
- Experience supporting the RBI process.
- GE Meridium (APM) V4 experience.
