Job DetailsLocation: Anacortes, WA, Onsite
Schedule: Per Diem / Variable hours
Salary: $27.50/hr - $40.05/hr
In the Pharmacy Technician role, you will assist in the selection of medications, preparation of parenteral admixtures, compounding, billing and stocking pharmaceuticals under the immediate supervision and control of a licensed Pharmacist.
Responsibilities- Select medication to fill patient drawers with medications prescribed by physicians and other licensed medical practitioners listed on the “cart fill list.”
- Refill automated dispensing cabinets on nursing care units:
Acute Care, Emergency Room, ICU, Oncology and Birth Center as needed for floor stock needs. - Audit/verify patient medication charges used during surgery.
- Pre-parse medications manually for emergency use; use automated medical packaging equipment for unit dosing medications.
- Admix small to large volume IVs with aseptic techniques and USP standards and hazardous substances; use a closed system transfer device (CSTD) for chemotherapeutic agents when possible.
- Procure non‑pharmaceutical supplies from the hospital purchasing department to adequately stock the night pharmacy and central pharmacy.
- Complete unit floor inspections, return and/or discard outdated pharmaceuticals, and complete necessary documentation for State and Federal regulatory agencies.
- Apply Continuous Quality Improvement principles and support the hospital’s philosophy of performance improvement.
- Document all required information in the Simplifi® software in a timely manner.
- Keep up-to-date with Critical Point® training including state and federal laws and regulations.
- Report to Pharmacy Director for additional duties when time permits.
- Under the direction of a pharmacist, may perform medication reconciliation such as collecting, reconciling, and entering into the electronic health record a patient's medication list prior to admission.
- Prioritize workflow, focusing first on patients that will be or have been admitted to the hospital.
- Interview patients and/or family members regarding medication and food allergies.
- Interview patients and/or family members regarding home medication list and, when appropriate, contact sources for home medication list such as pharmacies and/or providers.
- Document medications and allergies accurately in the Electronic Medical Record prior to admission for provider reconciliation.
- Utilize appropriate medication information resources to identify medications as needed.
- Utilize resources within the computer system such as previous dispense information and notes to ensure completeness of medication history and verify information.
- Maintain appropriate queues in the Electronic Medical Record.
- Minimum one (1) year of Pharmacy Tech experience required; previous experience in an acute care setting strongly preferred.
- Must maintain an active Pharmacy Tech license issued by the WA Department of Health.
