Position: Scheduler-Coordinator - Days / Per Diem

Description

In the Scheduler / Coordinator role, you will be responsible for clerical functions throughout the department they are assigned. He/she acts as a receptionist, performs tasks necessary to schedule patients, coordinate communication and provides clerical support to the clinical staff.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Answer phone and take messages, or direct call when appropriate. Relay urgent messages and return calls as necessary. Answer pages for physicians when indicated and relay messages. Facilitate communication to physicians, patients and staff regarding schedule timing and changes. Distribute and collect patient satisfaction/feedback.
  • Schedule cases allowing adequate time for procedure and turnover. Elicit all necessary information, verifying accuracy in spelling, dates, times, and complete procedural scheduling. Schedule procedures with services when necessary. Relay information regarding special equipment requests to supervisor and assist in coordinating with other hospitals or manufacturers. Enter schedule into computer for next day's surgeries. Make copies of schedule and distribute.
  • Utilize computer to order lab work, x-rays, demographic data and other pertinent information. Obtain results of tests and place on patient chart.
  • Use MS Office products to develop, format, and edit forms as needed for departmental efficiency.
  • Make up blank patient charts for new patients. Flag charts for incomplete paperwork and work to resolve.
  • Pick up items from Materials Management if needed. Send via interoffice mail correspondence to necessary departments.
  • Orders supplies bi-weekly, utilizing shopping guide and maintaining par levels. Call in interim orders to Materials Management on daily basis if required.
  • Transport patients using a wheelchair or wheeled carriage, or assist them to walk if needed.
  • Obtain continuing education consistent with level of practice at least one day per year. Attends department meetings a minimum of 75% of year to remain current in department policy/procedure and role responsibility.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to interact positively with Administration, Directors, Managers, Supervisors, peers, co-workers, subordinates, patients and visitors.
  • Must meet regular attendance standard and must stay at or below average sick leave utilization levels.
What You Will Bring To

The Role
  • High school Diploma required, advanced two (2) year degree preferred. Minimum HS Diploma.
  • Minimum six (6) months medical clerical training/experience desired.
  • Ability to maintain calm and positive attitude in stressful situations.
  • Ability to adapt to changing workload and work environment.
  • Can accept accountability for actions daily by utilization of self-evaluation, patient evaluations, and supervisor evaluations to modify job performance.
  • Can articulate and demonstrate professional image Island Hospital to patients, other professionals, and the public as evidenced by level of practice.
