Position: Licensed Practical Nurse - Island Primary Care and Walk-In Clinic, Per Diem / Variable Shift

Overview

Under the direction of the Clinic Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) oversees the effective clinical operations of the clinic. The Clinic LPN provides direct patient care and manages patient flow in the clinic, serves as a patient advocate between the clinic and outside entities, and is responsible for clinic safety and execution of proper protocols.

Salary Range: $25.08 – $37.63 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Rooms patients, collects medical data, documents for appropriate visit and assists with the physical exam.
  • Processes patient situations over the telephone to determine the appropriate medical attention.
  • Under the direction of a Physician or Advanced Practice Clinician, administers vaccines and medications IV, PO, IM, SQ, and conducts EKG and Spirometry testing.
  • Administers various CLIA-waived lab tests, including glucose, OGTT, INR, drug screens, pregnancy tests, TB tests, and others.
  • Facilitates and manages clinic flow.
  • Provides direct patient care to patients of all ages.
  • Facilitates the exchange and coordination of patient information.
  • Consistently utilizes information systems confidentially and accurately.
  • Acts as a patient advocate in communication with patients, families, and staff regarding treatment, tests, and procedures.
  • Coordinates services between clinic and other healthcare entities such as insurance, referrals, and public health services.
  • Maintains legible, pertinent, complete, and timely documentation.
  • Performs record checks as per clinic policies and protocols.
  • Manages safety issues and resources to provide cost‑effective, quality care.
  • Follows clinic policies, procedures, infection control protocols, and universal precaution guidelines.
  • Provides feedback on staff performance impacting safe, quality care.
  • Monitors inventory, quality assurance, and patient‑related needs.
  • Assists stocking medical and pharmaceutical supplies; reports low inventories.
  • Enters data for state‑supplied childhood vaccine program.
  • Documents oxygen tank checks and medication supply status.
  • Documents medical refrigerator temperatures and adjusts as necessary.
  • Maintains clinical and professional expertise through continuing education.
  • Functions within Island Hospital HIPAA Compliance policies and confidentiality agreements.
  • Demonstrates positive interaction with administration, supervisors, peers, and patients.
  • Meets regular attendance standards and maintains low sick utilization.
Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of previous clinical experience in an out‑patient Physician practice preferred.
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the Washington Department of Health.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan and the ability to apply age‑specific patient needs.
  • Responsive to verbal and non‑verbal cues of patients, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Open to constructive criticism and improvement actions.
  • Performs responsibilities with emotional maturity.
