Health Unit Coordinator/Certified Nursing Assistant (HUC/C.N.A.) responsible for clerical functions in the Emergency Department and assists in care of hospital patients under direction of a Registered Nurse and medical staff. Acts as receptionist and patient registration clerk, schedules patients, coordinates communication and serves as a messenger for nursing staff. Supports nursing philosophy and quality patient care at Island Hospital.

  • Schedule:

    0.9 FTE, Night Shift – 7:00 pm to 7:00 am
  • Salary: $22.42 /hr – $33.30 /hr
  • Night Differential: $2.25
  • Evening Differential: $1.65
  • Weekend Differential: $1.50
Responsibilities
  • Transports patients to rooms/treatment areas using wheelchair, stretcher, or assist them to walk.
  • Obtains and documents vital signs including blood pressure, heart rate, respiration, temperature and pain level; places patients on cardiac monitor as appropriate.
  • Answers call lights, determines patients' needs, and assists with dressing, toileting, and other activities of daily living.
  • Assists with examinations and treatments (e.g., pelvic exams, chest tube placements, wound care, laceration repair, closed reduction of limbs).
  • Verifies discharge sheets against admission sheets for accuracy and collects return of items such as glasses, hearing aids, and safe‑stored items.
  • Distributes discharge charts and related documentation appropriately.
  • Places surgery packs and consents on chart when ordered.
  • Takes specimens to lab and directs patients/visitors.
  • Retrieves medical records on admits after hours.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant course of study.
  • Current Washington State Certified Nursing Assistant registration.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Experience working in a busy clinical setting with changing priorities preferred.
