Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - Surgical Services, Full-Time, Day Shift

Island Health is offering a $10,000 sign‑on bonus for an experienced Surgical Services Registered Nurse for the Day Shift at our hospital in Anacortes, WA.

  • 1.0 FTE / 40 hours a week
  • 10‑hour shifts
  • Day Shift

Salary Range: $37.64 - $71.35 per hour

  • $10,000 Sign‑On Bonus
  • Night Differential - $4.75
  • Evening Differential - $3.25
  • Weekend Differential - $4.00
  • BSN (or higher) premium - $1.00 per hour
  • Certification premium - $1.00 per hour

Job Responsibilities
  • Utilize the nursing process as a basis of care, acknowledging, coordinating, and implementing diagnostic and therapeutic orders for each patient.
  • Administer, observe, chart, and report the effects of drugs, intravenous procedures, and other therapeutic and diagnostic measures in a safe and accurate manner.
  • Appraise cleanliness of the room and operational efficiency of equipment, reporting and solving problems prior to patient admission.
  • Identify patient by name, check name band and chart, and verify completeness of operative consent forms and ordered diagnostic studies.
  • Inform surgeon and anesthesiologist of any pertinent observations regarding symptoms or reactions.
  • Perform pre‑operative physical assessment according to protocol, checking chart for completion of consent, history and physical, and reports of ordered diagnostic studies.
  • Take nursing history referencing reason for hospitalization, allergies, physical limitations, and special considerations influencing positioning and care during surgery.
  • Communicate with appropriate O.R. nurses and anesthesiologists regarding information gathered from patient interviews.
  • Provide direct, individualized nursing care to patients based on scientific nursing principles.
  • Be available for on‑call assignments/periods as required, ensuring adequate coverage for patient care and safety standards.
  • Consult and coordinate with health‑care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Conduct pre‑ and post‑operative education.
  • Serve as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team.
  • Take and monitor patients’ vital signs.
  • Ensure correct patient and procedure are performed.
  • Provide basic bedside care.
  • Prepare and administer medications (orally, subcutaneously, or intravenously) and record prescribed medications, reporting adverse reactions as per policy.
  • Respond to life‑saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol.
  • Record all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner and on the appropriate forms.
  • Prepare the operating room for patient/procedure.
  • Initiate corrective action whenever monitoring equipment indicates adverse symptomatology.
  • Monitor patients’ physical and emotional well‑being throughout the care continuum.
  • Initiate patient education plans, teaching patients and significant others how to manage post‑treatment home care, medication self‑administration, and rehabilitation.
  • Perform other position‑related duties as assigned, depending on the setting.
Job Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Washington State Registered Nurse license.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Previous inter‑operative experience required (preferably 2 years or more, but any surgical experience will be considered).
  • Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) certification preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree preferred.
