Position: Registered Nurse, (RN) - Acute Care, Part Time, Day Shift

Island Health is looking for an experienced Acute Care Unit Registered Nurse for a part‑time night shift at our hospital in Anacortes, WA.

Position Details
  • 0.6 FTE
  • Night shift
  • Salary Range: $37.64 - $71.35 per hour
  • Night Differential – $4.75 per hour
  • Evening Differential – $3.25 per hour
  • Weekend Differential – $4.00 per hour
  • BSN (or higher) premium – $1.00 per hour
  • Certification premium – $1.00 per hour

Job Responsibilities
  • Utilizes the 5‑step nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation) to provide needed patient care.
  • Acknowledges, coordinates and implements diagnostic and therapeutic orders for each patient.
  • Accepts responsibility for knowledge of the State Nurse Practice Act, current hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Accountable for administration of, observation, charting and reporting drug effects, intravenous procedures, other therapeutic and diagnostic measures in a safe and accurate manner, in accordance with hospital and nursing department policies and within the framework of Washington State rules and regulations.
  • Identifies emergent situations and can perform calmly and professionally during emergencies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to operate necessary equipment.
  • Performs in a manner that demonstrates knowledge of technical skills.
  • Acts as a resource regarding patient care, specialty area and staff development.
  • Establishes treatment priorities based on medical and nursing diagnoses.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and can identify each patient’s age‑specific needs.
  • Understands and supports principles of clinical pathways.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing standards.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
  • Documents relevant information accurately and legibly in clear, concise terms, using appropriate charting methods approved by Nursing Administration.
  • Respects patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality, acting as an advocate when necessary.
  • Responds constructively and sensitively to the verbal and non‑verbal behavior of patients, families and visitors.
  • Responds constructively and sensitively to the verbal and non‑verbal behavior of peers and other hospital personnel, promoting positive working relationships.
  • Keeps supervisors informed of status and progress of patients to aid staffing and assignment decisions.
  • Assesses patient or significant other knowledge levels, participates in goal development to meet needs.
  • Develops teaching plans and evaluates outcomes.
  • Documents appropriate components of the nursing process as per established standards.
Professionalism & Leadership Ability
  • Accepts, supports and implements hospital and nursing department policies and programs, enhancing development by recommending changes.
  • Assesses staffing needs and requests additional help when required, forgoing extra staffing when not needed; accepts constructive criticism and takes action to improve.
  • Participates in performance evaluations by preparing a self‑evaluation.
  • Strives for excellence and safety in patient care, and challenges or corrects peers’ errors to ensure patient safety, participating in peer review.
  • Attends workshops and in‑services that meet skill development needs or continuing education interests, as defined at hire or in annual evaluation.
  • Attends and participates at staff meetings.
  • Participates in formulation and implementation of unit standards.
  • Provides leadership in patient safety by reading sentinel event alerts, implementing patient safety goals, reporting errors and near‑misses, and implementing appropriate actions.
Job Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current licensure in Washington State required.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience in an acute hospital setting preferred.
